Shipment of chemicals through U.S. railroads increased 6.7% for the week ending Oct. 2, as rail-car loadings totaled 29,873, compared with 28,010 during the same period last year, according to figures released by the Association of American Railroads. Data from the AAR also show that year-to-date rail-car chemical loadings were up 10.2% from last year. According to analysts, such figures represent trends not just in the chemical industry, but also in manufacturing.
