A PwC Health Research Institute study found that about 66% of physicians could not link their smartphones with electronic medical record systems at hospitals or medical practices. This lack of connectivity, due to both a lack of financial investment by some providers in the technology and a lack of connectivity between the hospital EMR systems and the devices, prevents physicians from maximizing the use of their mobile devices, especially in performing patient monitoring tasks, the study noted.
