The Air Force on Monday conducted a test flight of a Global Hawk unmanned aerial vehicle powered by a blend of conventional jet fuel and biofuels. The test was part of the Air Force's plan to certify its fleet to operate on jet fuel blended with 50% alternative fuels starting in 2016. Separately, the Navy announced it had flown a Seahawk helicopter using a biofuel blend derived from camelina seeds. "These biofuels provide the Navy with an 'off-ramp' from petroleum to increased energy security," a Navy official said.
