North Carolina's Lenoir County approved a $50,000 grant for DuPont as part of the company's $5.4 million upgrade to a plant in Kinston. The facility produces the Sorona-brand bio-based polymer, which is used in carpet fibers and engineering plastics and is manufactured using farm-based feedstocks rather than fossil fuels. "This gives us a little bit of a competitive advantage with the Sorona project," an official said. The upgrades are also expected to reduce the plant's emissions.
