A New Jersey Assembly committee approved a bill that would allow licensing of two new Atlantic City casinos, the first since Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa opened in 2003. The legislation would also ease requirements for licensing casinos in the state. Currently, casino hotels are required to have at least 60,000 square feet of floor space and 500 rooms. Attempts to develop such casinos have run into difficulties, partly because of the economic downturn and competition from other states.
