The Air Pollution Control District at San Joaquin Valley, Calif., was able to lower prices of new models of cordless electric lawn mowers from $350 and $400 to $25 and $50 for residents who would turn in their gas-powered lawn mowers. The district has been implementing the program for years in a bid to reduce air pollution coming from gas mowers, but it was the first time the area was able to offer a huge discount on electric mowers by using a $400,000 grant from the state Air Resources Board.
