The mayoral race in Lexington, Ky., was largely free of anti-gay rhetoric, even though the winner, Jim Gray, has been out since 2005. Lexington will the third largest U.S. city with a gay mayor. "I think the larger message in an economic sense is that Lexington is an open, welcoming and inclusive place," said Gray, who ran on a platform of economic growth. LGBT advocates praised Gray's opponent for refraining from making sexual orientation a campaign issue.
