The University of San Diego has rented rooftop space on 11 campus buildings to a solar-panel company and agreed to buy the power generated by the company's 5,200 panels. The electricity will meet about 15% of the university's energy needs and save about $100,000 a year in energy bills. The project makes the university one of the the largest producers of solar energy among the country's universities.
