A National Board Certified Teacher has outgoing students write "legacy letters" before the school year ends to her new students to help them transition to a new grade level and a new teacher. Marsha Ratzel, a Kansas middle-school teacher, writes that the class collaborates on the letters, which typically include hints for new students on everything from how to do well in class to tips for opening their lockers. When the new school year begins, Ratzel shares the letters with her students and posts some of the tips on her class website.
