Work crews in Danversport, Mass., are to flare off residual propane at an unused National Grid facility before dismantling the plant's machinery and pipelines. The site had been used to squirt propane into natural gas lines to maintain operating pressure, but grid improvements made the system obsolete. The flare, which will last about two days, will look and sound dramatic but will be safe, officials told residents.
