While slow sales and a rough economy may make it hard to focus on anything other than money, business owners can't take a hiatus from evaluating and rewarding their employees for a job well done, writes Karen Klein. Business coach Ken Keller says, "Companies that don't hold people accountable tend to underperform." Keller also reminds business owners that if they "don't take care of their best employees, they should not be surprised when they leave."
