The campaign, dubbed "Shrek Forever After, Vidalias Forever Sweet," includes a website as well as the cartoon character's image on packaging and store displays -- and it appears to be working. Vidalia onion growers report shipping 8 million more pounds of the onions over the same period in 2009.
The ad campaign "Shrek Forever After, Vidalias Forever Sweet" is reaping green for Vidalia onion growers who are reporting more sales of the sweet Georgia onion than ever before. The Vidalia Onion Committee, an association of 100 growers, entered into a partnership with DreamWorks Animation and has since been using the animated character on its packaging, store displays and website.
Spangler Candy Co. will launch a line of marshmallow candies in conjunction with the release of "Shrek Forever After" in May. The green Swamp Apple Shrek Ogrehead Marshmallow Treats will be available in March.
