Between one-third and one-half of 11th-grade students nationwide have mastered the material they should have under the common-core standards for math and English adopted by all but seven states, according to a recent study. The testing nonprofit ACT analyzed the results from its test questions that mesh with the standards. Students performed worse in math than English, and minorities scored lower than their white peers, according to the analysis. Testing officials and experts, though, warned the review was done before educators began teaching to the standards.
