A survey of 1,168 nontraumatic abdominal pain patients showed that 20% of them were confident in a medical evaluation that includes patient history and physical exam compared with 90% of those who also had a CT scan and blood work. But only 3% of patients were aware of the lifetime cancer risks linked to CT scans. The findings suggest a need to better educate patients about radiation exposure from medical imaging, the researchers said.
