Researchers said almost 86% of morbidly obese patients who underwent gastric bypass surgery shed more than 40% of excess weight compared with only about 31% of patients who had Lap-Band surgery. Patients in the gastric bypass group had a slightly higher risk of post-surgical complications but those who had Lap-Band were more likely to require another surgery, according to the American study in the Archives of Surgery.
