Despite the digital-mapping revolution, many people are still using pen and paper to make quick maps for casual use, says Adena Schutzberg. "Doing a quick sketch on a piece of paper or sketching right on top of a map is a very intimate creation. It's an awful lot like taking pen to paper to write a letter," she argues. Still, it's unclear whether intimacy and nostalgia will be enough to help hand-drawn maps survive as today's digitally savvy youngsters grow into adulthood.
