Pointing a laser at an aircraft would become a crime punishable by up to five years in prison under legislation passed unanimously by the House of Representatives. The Senate approved a similar measure under an FAA funding bill, but the versions must be reconciled before going to President Barack Obama for his signature. Pilots say lasers pointed at aircraft threaten their vision and ability to safely operate aircraft. Last year, 2,836 laser incidents were reported, doubling from the previous year.
