A judge temporarily has prevented a Wisconsin law from going into effect that weakens collective-bargaining rights for public employees, including teachers. The ruling stems from a lawsuit alleging that Republican lawmakers violated laws on open meetings to pass the controversial legislation. Dane County District Judge Maryann Sumi ruled that lawmakers could consider the legislation again in committee with the proper notice. The state's attorney general is expected to appeal the decision.
