Seventy percent of third-graders in Binghamton, N.Y., consumed two to five sweetened drinks daily, 85% logged two to five hours of screen time per day and 42% ate at least two fast-food meals weekly, a study found. The lead researcher said some restrictions by parents and schools -- such as to avoid water from drinking fountains or to limit play to the house or backyard -- could contribute to the unhealthy habits.
