Federal budget cuts could have the unintended effect of compromising safety for airline passengers, said Rep. Jerry Costello, D-Ill. He also said such cuts would prevent airports from investing in infrastructure. "We're going to lop off $10 billion and go back to the 2008 or 2007 spending levels," Costello said. "We need to do it in a thoughtful way to make certain that you are not putting the American people in jeopardy."
