Teachers often try to motivate students through rewards or pep talks, but teacher Larry Ferlazzo writes in this piece -- adapted from his new book -- that students must be taught to discover their motivation. To motivate students to learn, Ferlazzo recommends praising specific achievements, building relationships with students, using cooperative learning, conveying the financial and health benefits of education and creating opportunities for students to guide their own learning.
