LinkedIn has announced a developer platform and plug-in tools that apparently will work in much the same way as Facebook's "Open Graph" platform, allowing third-party sites to incorporate recommendation buttons and profile summaries into their content. The move suggests that LinkedIn is positioning itself to compete directly with Facebook, Mathew Ingram writes. "More than any of its previous moves, this one throws LinkedIn into head-to-head competition with Facebook for the clicks and identities of web users," Ingram writes.
