The Mars chocolate facility in Cleveland, Tenn., was granted tax abatements from city and county governments that voted to amend the original 2012 $67-million agreement associated with the plant's pretzel M&M line expansion to include $10 million for improvements to the Twix production lines. The facility makes more than half of the company's M&Ms and all of the Twix products.
Snack and gum brands were among the 10 food and drinks brands with the most sales growth in 2010, according to SymphonyIRI Group, with salty snacks and breakfast foods showing the most growth. Fast-growing brands include Wonderful Pistachios, Powerade Ion 4, Chobani and Trident Layers.
Mars has expanded its M&M's brand with the addition of M&M's Wildly Cherry Chocolate Candies. The new product, which combines M&M's milk chocolate with a hint of cherry, is now available in stores across the U.S. for six weeks.
