People 19 or older who consumed an average of 1.3 ounces of candy and chocolate a day had a slightly lower body mass index than nonconsumers and a 15% lower risk of metabolic syndrome, according to a study funded by the National Confectioners Association and the USDA. The results indicate that consuming sweets in moderation will not increase the risk of obesity or disease, researchers said.
