More airlines are sharing ticket counters, gate space and kiosks at U.S. airports. Some carriers do not object to sharing space because it lowers their rent. Others, however, say they should not be forced to share their technology with competitors. Meanwhile, common-use facilities are becoming more common in Europe. Observers also note that some airports are eager to reclaim space to make room for retail outlets.
