New York is on track to receive $3.3 million in high-speed rail funding, which will pay for track improvements in heavily trafficked areas upstate. "Adding rail capacity is an integral part of our high-speed intercity passenger rail program, and it creates win-win situations for passengers and the freight railroads," said Federal Railroad Administrator Joseph Szabo. Both freight and Amtrak rail services stand to benefit from the upgrades.
