A $2 million request by Washington state schools chief Randy Dorn to fund a technology partnership with Microsoft in the state's high schools could not have come at a worse time, writes the editorial board of The Seattle Times. The proposal comes as many schools face deep budget cuts that will affect staffing and programs, and has not been placed in context with other privately funded efforts to improve science, technology, engineering and math instruction in schools, they write.
