Congressional lawmakers are working to craft another stopgap budget plan that will temporarily prevent a government shutdown on Friday. One fiscal year 2011 proposal by House Republican leaders would fund education and the rest of government for one week, while funding the military through Sept. 30. The plan would cut an estimated $390 million for education, eliminating the $119 million Teaching American History program, as well as the $100 million Educational Technology State Grants programs.
