Traffic deaths fell in 2010 for the fifth consecutive year, according to federal statistics. The 3.2% decrease from 2009 brought the number of deaths to 32,788, the fewest since 1949. "Still, too many of our friends and neighbors are killed in preventable roadway tragedies every day. We will continue doing everything possible to make cars safer," said Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood.
