San Diego Gas & Electric entered into a 20-year deal with sister company Sempra Generation for up to 156 megawatts of renewable power from Sempra's Energia Sierra Juarez project in Baja California, Mexico. The facility, which started development in 2007, can power up to 65,000 homes with as much as 1,200 MW of wind power when completed in 2013. Because SGD&E and Sempra Generation are both owned by Sempra Energy, the contract between them requires the approval of the California Public Utilities Commission.
