Angiotensin II receptor blocker Diovan was just as effective as calcium channel blocker Norvasc in reducing blood pressure and hemoglobin A1c levels in Japanese men and women with type 2 diabetes or impaired glucose tolerance and hypertension, according to a study presented at the American College of Cardiology meeting. A separate study found that a high-dose ARB worked better than an ARB-calcium channel blocker combo in reducing cardiovascular events in people with type 2 diabetes.
