A study of more than 13,000 adults with heart complications found that 70% of those who underwent surgery followed their prescribed statin therapy for one year compared with 79% of patients who only had the medication. The lead researcher of the study, which appears in the American Journal of Cardiology, said chest pain symptoms, cost and side effects may play a role in statin therapy adherence.
