The U.S. Supreme Court ruled 5-4 on Monday that a $500 tax credit in Arizona, given to people who donate to "tuition organizations" that provide scholarships to religious and other private schools, does not violate the establishment clause of the First Amendment. Justice Elena Kagan wrote her first dissent since joining the court, arguing that the decision gives governments an easy route for getting around the establishment clause to support religious institutions.
