The Rev. Martin Ssempa met with the speaker of the Ugandan parliament last week to press for consideration of an anti-homosexuality bill that includes the death penalty as one possible consequence for violating the measure. Ssempa presented two men he said were former homosexuals, one of whom later recanted his testimony and reaffirmed that he was gay. American missionaries are said to have been involved in efforts to whip up anti-gay sentiment in the country.
