U.S. consumers are ordering fewer fries with their quickservice meals than they were four years ago, a combined result of recession-era belt-tightening and a growing focus on healthier eating. Guests, many who are eschewing pricier meal combos in favor of ordering single sandwiches from the value menu, are including fries in 13.2% of their restaurant meals today compared to 14.5% in 2004, according to NPD Group.
