A study of more than 700 adults found 23 out of 100 vegetarians had three or more metabolic syndrome factors, such as high blood glucose, compared with 37 of 100 semi-vegetarians and 39 of 100 nonvegetarians. Vegetarians had the lowest average body mass index at 25.7, while nonvegetarians had the highest at almost 30, according to the study in the journal Diabetes Care.
