More than 90% of the primary backup systems used by the U.S. nuclear energy industry met safety standards, according to the World Association of Nuclear Operators. It is the 12th year in a row that the industry has received such high marks. "[WANO] indicators show that U.S. nuclear plants continue to operate at high levels of safety and with the reliability that makes them a cornerstone of an affordable, low-carbon energy portfolio for the American people," said Nuclear Energy Institute President and CEO Marvin Fertel.
