The U.S. should go ahead with auctioning off unused portions of the broadcast spectrum for high-speed wireless Internet use, Obama administration officials argue. The auction will create high-tech jobs and lay the groundwork to make the U.S. more competitive in broadband services, officials say. But analysts say the proposed AT&T acquisition of T-Mobile USA could reduce demand for additional spectrum access and delay or derail auction plans.
