Arkansas' aggressive anti-obesity campaign, started in 2003 by then-Gov. Mike Huckabee, has not had much of an effect, even though experts say it targets the right areas, such as school vending machine access and nutrition and exercise programs. Roberta Friedman of Yale's Rudd Center for Food Policy and Obesity says laws do not lead to quick behavioral changes and that while changing the school environment is a start, parents, stores and marketers also need to be involved to make a difference.
