U.S. researchers studied 30 dual-earner couples and found that more time spent on housework was associated with higher levels of the stress hormone cortisol in the evening as well as weaker afternoon-to-evening recovery for both men and women. Higher after-work recovery was seen in husbands who spent more time for leisure and whose wives had less leisure time, according to the study in the Journal of Family Psychology.
