Rep. David Schweikert, R-Ariz., and Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, D-Mo., are drafting an amendment to a National Flood Insurance Program reauthorization bill that would require the federal government to seek private insurers willing to take in 800,000 NFIP Direct policies currently handled by State Farm agents. "We support the current public-private partnership for managing flood risk in the U.S. and urge Congress to adopt measures that will encourage more policies to be administered by the private market and preserve the NFIP Direct program's original function that handles only complex risks and repetitive losses," said PCI's Ben McKay.
