Positive train control is among 70 regulations that the Department of Transportation has identified as "out-of-date, unnecessary, excessively burdensome, or in conflict with other rules." The agency's preliminary review report says, "FRA has examined [PTC] and decided that revisions could be proposed that would significantly reduce industry burdens without adversely affecting rail safety." In a statement, Edward Hamberger, president and CEO of the Association of American Railroads, said, "We are pleased to see the administration continues to move forward with its review of federal regulations that stymie U.S. economic recovery and future growth."
