The western U.S. leads the country in the rate and scope of smart grid adoption, according to a report from U.S. News & World Report. Of the top 10 cities ranked on criteria including the deployment of smart meters, seven are east of the Rocky Mountains -- if you include Maui, in Hawaii. Only two eastern U.S. cities -- Washington, D.C., and Worcester, Mass. -- made the rankings, with the Canadian city of Toronto rounding out the list, although Smart Grid News considers a few other cities worthy of the list.
