Business leaders should resign themselves to the fact that they're owned by the people they're ostensibly in charge of, says Bing Gordon, a partner at Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers. The best bosses aren't authoritarians, he says, but instead are experienced helpers who know how to guide workers toward their goals and full potential. "As a person of authority, I'm kind of teacher-consultant more than wielder of power," he adds.
