The National Cancer Institute has tasked Washington University School of Medicine and the Siteman Cancer Center to create the Cancer Imaging Archive, an online database that will link genetic information from the The Cancer Genome Atlas to X-rays, MRI, CT and PET images used in diagnosing cancer in patients. "Linking scans to genetic information may help us to identify aspects of the tumor's appearance that can help us determine the genetic type of the tumor," said Fred Prior, the director of TCIA. "That could be extremely important for diagnosis and treatment of some cancers."
