Doctors, nurses and staff in hospitals around Germany have been working longer hours to combat complications from an outbreak of a new form of the E. coli bacteria. Dr. Cay-Uwe von Seydewitz, a blood specialist in Hamburg, last week supervised blood plasma exchanges for 22 patients to remove toxins from their bodies. "If you have a new illness, it's important to have the same doctor from the start to the end to see how it changes over time," von Seydewitz said.
