A study of infants with the HLA genotype found that those who shifted from breast-feeding to easily digestible hydrolyzed formula were 50% less likely to exhibit signs of type 1 diabetes by age 5 compared with those who consumed foods such as cereals and fruits or other formula after their breast-feeding period. The finding of the study, published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, was supported by another analysis that followed up with the children at age 10.
