Susan O'Mahoney Holtzman says she has seen her conference-management company grow to 17 employees running 20 annual medical conferences, but further growth will require "a major leap forward" rather than a gradual evolution, says SCORE counselor Bud Davis, who conducted a "business makeover" at the owner's request. The first step was a personal assessment in which Holtzman wrote down her strengths and the role she would prefer to play at her company. Armed with a written wish list, "I was better able to define the responsibilities that I would want to pass on to a new role or roles in the company," she said.
