Self-promotion via social media is a touchy subject, but there are a handful of instances in which it's widely acceptable, writes Chris Syme. It's fine to self-promote when you've gained your audience's trust, when you're providing more value than you're demanding in return or when you're already a celebrity, Syme writes. "So [Britney] Spears can hawk her stuff shamelessly in social media and we'll keep on liking and buying," he writes.
