Dow Chemical's partnership with Japan's Ube Industries to produce advanced materials for lithium-ion batteries could be boosted by legislation from Sen. Debbie Stabenow, D-Mich. The bill seeks to provide $2 billion in investments for manufacturers to compete in the expanding market for advanced-battery materials. Global funding in the field means "federal investment in industries of critical national importance becomes necessary for America to compete for the commercial value, manufacturing and employment that new industry provides," said Greg Baldwin, a Dow Chemical spokesman.
